Unforgettable reunion of friends after 47 years

We planned a reunion of a group of friends who matriculated at Dundee high in 1977. Blackrock tsogosun was an excellent venue giving us the full range of services needed to cater for ppl all over South Africa and internationally for this event from accomodation for the weekend, to our breakfasts and our gala night of events at the Imbizo conference venue. The head of banqueting Andre and his team were over the top fantastic people. Going beyond their duty to cater for our halaal options and veg curries and even roti
Set up of venue was so excellent. They worked with us towards such a memorable event. For the pricing their value for money exceeded all our expectations.
Our friends sat till late night at the pool area, in the foyer and in the conference room they catered to our every whim and fancy.
excellent well maintained property, pristine and manicured lawns...a delight to just sit and enjoy the views
Hotel rooms were very well maintained and all amenities needed were there. Again value for money compared to even b and b who charge much much more in the Newcastle area
Breakfast was so varied and plentiful we couldn't do justice to all that was placed on the buffet.
What a great team at Blackrock from the reception staff to the housekeepers ...I can say as a top reviewer that Blackrock is s star in the tsogo flagship.

THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER. PATHETIC HOTEL SECURITY THAT ALLOW HOTEL GUESTS TO CARRY A GUN INTO THE HOTEL

On the 27th of July 2024, My family and i booked at the Blackrock hotel. It was the worst experience ever. Around 12 30 am on the 28th whilst we were asleep in our room the was alot of noise and screaming from a few drunk hotel patrons They were using the most profane expletives and were loud and boisterous. This was taking place at the hotel corridor on the first floor. A little while later we could hear screaming and shouting. we could hear a women screaming that another man shouting that one of the drunk men hit his wife and then we could hear further screaming, shouting and one person was screaming that the drunk has a gun. we were in our room absolutely shocked as the commotion was taking place just outside our room. When we heard that one person had a gun we got up and went on the floor afraid of a shoot out. we called the hotel reception and the emergency number on the hotel telephone ,there was no response. my husband opened the door and we could see people running and screaming and they were screaming out for the police to be called. there was no assistance from the hotel security. we called 10111 ad they were useless they requested that we call Newcastle Police Station. A little while later 2 police vehicles and a ambulance and security vehicles got to the hotel and the commotion continued in the car park, an absolute night of terror and no support from the staff of the Hotel.

Blackrock means Black only

This the 3rd time I been to Blackrock Hotel. They have cut down to just one complimentary water bottle to the duration of your stay and no milk just powdered creamers. A real budget strapped hotel for the price you for pay a day/night. Breakfast: the plates are hot but not the food especially the sausages and the toaster does not work correctly. I can live with it BUT not the underlying racism towards South African Indians. When I quickly greeted one of the room Attendants to enquire to the direction of the whereabouts of the poorly labeled eating/ Dining hall. The room attendant became very assertive when in the presence of other black patrons that walked by making sure her voice was loud enough for them to hear in the distance demanding I greet her the way she wanted like she owned the hotel. Wow, it doesn't take much to know when a person is being a black supremacist /Racist towards you in Tone and facial expression. Hotel hospitality!. Not Tsogo Sun Blackrock Hotel, that's for sure. I pay. I greet. I am nice to all at the hotel but to see people behave In this manner towards hotel guests because I am of Indian descent. Truly disgusting.

Avoid At All Costs...THIEVES

Short version: The hotels management ignores theft of its guests belongings by hotel employees or is complicit in the act themselves. Save yourself the trouble and money and go elsewhere. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Long version: The hotel itself is average and the service follows suite. Onsite restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, leaving the sub par casino being the only real draw here.
The theft in question occurred during checkout, when we forgot our valuable in the room safe which we had left unlocked while packing. We realized what we forgot 45 minutes after we departed and when we returned to check the room the item was gone. Hotel security footage confirmed that no one but my wife and I entered our room during our entire stay except for when we checked out. Two hotel employees can be seen entering the room and exiting shortly after, leaving very little room for speculation as to what took place.
Hotel management performed a very curt investigation and sent us on our way after forwarding our information to their claims department. One month of being bounced around, no response, no findings or apology was every given and our valuables were never recovered.
Hotel management handled the situation terribly which strongly leads one to believe that this happens often enough for them to dismiss their guests and allow a culture of theft to permeate through their establishment. NEVER AGAIN!

Good hotel with casino, bar & restaurant

I was happy with my accommodation & with the on site casino, bar & restaurant, I personally prefer a quieter more rural locale but I can recommend to anyone who prefers a busy more vibey locale. It also has. secure off street parking.
