A Gem in the Muchinga

I stumbled on this facility by accident on a recent trip to Mpika. I have been advised to stay at a different facility which I did not like so I decided to venture and search for something different. What caught my eye when I got there was the Trip Advisor approval bange and immediately I knew I was in safe hands. The facility was clean, the staff courteous and the food was not bad at all. I would highly recommend the executive room.

Disappointed

So I had been to Northern Rock a few years back and when we came to Mpika I found the place fully booked but still encouraged my colleagues to move there when some rooms became available. I really regret this decision: 1. The rooms, carpets are dirty. They have water issues, the surroundings are not as well maintained as they should be. It’s just so so sad for a place that started off so well.

Poor attitude

The attitude of the staff is terrible, not friendly nor welcoming. The worst attitude was with the restaurant staff. The team at the reception had excuses for every poor service.
There was no water the whole night, no hot water. I was offered water in a bucket in the morning
The reception staff are terrible at giving feedback when there is a problem. Unfortunately I have another 2 nights of this.

Northern rock doesn't rock!

The hotel looked attractive from outside so we decided to break our return journey here(stopped at Bayama on our way to Lake Tanganyrika)
This decision of choosing hotel on looks proved very wrong-the front side visible from road are the conference halls, the rooms are tucked in the back and face either construction site ,parking lot or walls of other rooms. The room rate is on higher side (K 750)They had family room but it had only one toiled so we went for two rooms.
The interior of the room must have been good at one time but now most of it in urgent need of repairs-the reading lamps are coming out of the wall, the taps are sticking out ,the glass doors on the bathroom cracked and will fall down any time if the door is pushed hard. The rooms face construction site which is very active till 5.30 om but then also you don't receive peace as the workers use that area to clean cars and loudly talk to each other. The water from the washed cars flow outside the door of the rooms and make it hard for you to step in and out-no door mats so the rooms is all muddy.
The only saving grace is the food-took 2 hours to prepare our order(the wait time they gave us so order food early)The food is really great and up to the standards of any good restaurant in Kitwe or Lusaka-the price too is reasonable .Our order was mixed with continental, oritental and Indian dishes and each one was good.
Surprisingly this is the only hotel we have found in Zambia which has jet spray in toilet -suitable for Asians and Arabs.

Dissapointed and dirty

I have stayed here quite a few times as the location is great for travel between lusaka and nsumbu. It has been getting worse each visit. For k960 a night the room had cockeroaches, dirty bathroom with insects and ant nests and the aircon didnt work well with no remote. I did book in advance so our arrival was expected. I dont think i would return again after this experience. On the good side the breakfast is quite good. Just wanted to let the management know, sorry to post a bad review.
