Beautiful, laid back spot in Marathon

We stayed here for 3 nights. It was quiet and low key with great views for sunrise and sunset. There is a nice pool and beach area, along with a dock where we spotted manatees. We loved that we could use the bikes and kayaks free of charge. Outside the rooms were nice sitting areas with grills and firepits. It was exactly what we were looking for in the Keys!

No beach area / Not good for boats over 16ft

The hotel is old, outdated and rooms are very small, only like 2 rooms have ocean view, limited furniture, no noise protection at all, you hear people from the other room like if they were in your same room, there is no beach area, only sand and chairs surrounded by rocks around seawall ⛔️️ Ramp is not good for boats more than 15ft. Ramp is way to high and very dirty with trash and seaweed. ( hotel front desk will not tell you!) They charge $25. p night, cash only for docking. Very few spaces available. To get in or out is a nightmare because even with high tide is very shallow! 2-3 feet ( front desk will not mention it) They only tell you that you can also use the ramp at mile marker 49, city of Marathon public ramp and use their dock. The cost is $25 for drop off and $25. for pick up, but they don’t tell you that is more than an hour by boat to get from the ramp to the hotel and forget about picking up your boat from there, the line was more than 60 cars and all the caos of boats going around by the water waiting to take out. So we use the ramp from Key Colony that was only $5. more dollars on the ocean side, no line, and much closer to the hotel.

I chose this motel because it had a 9.4 exceptional rating. Fool me once - never again! I normally don't write negative reviews. But Hotels.com keeps badering me for a review. Our room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The room smelled very musty. The pedestal sink had nowhere to put your toiletries. The building was very old. The grounds were well kept. I've been a militarty/airline/corporate pilot traveling the world for over 40 years. I've stayed in thousands of hotels. This was my least favorite. Crummy at best, but clean. I really have to wonder where all those positive reviews of this place came from? Maybe 8.7 stars in some people's eyes? But 9.4 Exceptional? What the hell? We paid $400 for 1 night. At $200 a night in season in the Keys, it might be a 3 star in someone else's opinion. But terrible, in my opinion. I would not stay there for free...

Quiet and peace in Marathon, FL!

Nice and calm gem in Marathon, we only have stopped here to spend a night on our way to Key West. I wish we planned a few nights here! Spacious rooms, a really good value for money.
Chriss at the reception was very kind and quickly showed us around.
